What maintenance does my umbrella require?

To get the most out of your shade it's important that you take care of it. Proper care and maintenance is important to extend the serviceable life of all Shadowspec Umbrellas.

  • Freshwater rinses once a week will enhance the life of your Shadowspec Umbrella.
  • In cases where you wish to store your Umbrella during the winter season, the canopy should be cleaned, air-dried and stored in a dry and well-ventilated area.
  • Weekly inspection of your Shadowspec Umbrella is recommended. Loose screws should be tightened and any broken components replaced immediately to avoid further damage to your umbrella.
  • At the beginning of each season, we recommend checking and tightening your hardware. If you are in a coastal area; hose your umbrella down at the end of each season, dry it out, and put your protection cover on before storing it away.

For quick cleans, the canopy fabric can be left on the Frame:

  1. Brush off any loose dirt and particles
  2. Hose down the canopy
  3. Clean with a mild soap in lukewarm water
  4. Rinse thoroughly to remove soap
  5. Allow fabric to air dry.

For thorough cleans:

Hand Wash
1. Prepare a cleaning solution of 60ml of mild soap for 4L of lukewarm water
2. Clean with a soft bristle brush and allow cleaning solution to soak into fabric.
3. Rinse thoroughly and allow the fabric to air dye.

Machine Wash
1. Brush off any loose dirt
2. Machine wash at 40°C on a delicate/gentle cycle
3. Allow fabric to air dry

To clean mildew or other stubborn stains:

  1. Prepare a solution of 240ml of bleach and 60ml of mild soap for 4L of clean water
  2. Spray on entire area and allow to soak into the fabric.
  3. Scrub vigorously with a soft bristle brush, sponge or clean towel
  4. Rinse thoroughly
  5. Allow fabric to air dry

Important Note: This method of cleaning may remove part of the water repellency. If water repellency is a factor, the fabric should receive an application of an air-curing water repellent treatment (such as SM fabric guard).
